Birthday Party Challenge - NO Sugar (except delicious fresh fruit).

My son’s 10th Birthday Gathering

The Cake Replacement.

My children are 3 weeks into their commitment of consuming no sugar for a year. They are doing so well, definitely into the swing of it now. As am I, I felt a little daunted at first, it has just taken time to get into a new way of things.

After school on Friday we went to the local farm shop before stopping at the river for a snack and dip. For a treat I brought some local Strawberries, Blueberries and 100% dark chocolate, I also took along some toasted nuts. The combination was yummy and they were so appreciative as I have also limited fruit. Before this time this may have been mumbled at, especially with 100% chocolate, they ate it all, happy kids!

The challenge of a birthday party which involved no sugar felt a little daunting. My son was really very relaxed and happy with the suggestion of a real cheese cake.

I filled the board with three different cheeses, salami, pistachios, grapes, celery, colourful carrots and birthday candles.

All the kiddies ate amazingly and ate lots of it!

I made crispy wedges using tortilla wraps, tossed in some olive oil, dried oregano and salt and pepper, into the oven for 20 minutes at 175c.

My usual Hummus platter, topped with chickpeas roasted in the oven, fresh coriander and some good olive oil. Water jugs filled with fresh fruit and mint.
